The Breakup Book
Volume II
Submission Deadline: January 15th, 2024
In 2019, we released The Breakup Book: Essays on Queer Breakups. We’ve decided it’s time for Volume II.
This anthology will consist of nonfiction essays about breakups. We want to hear the good, bad, and the ugly. Our first volume ran the gamut of feelings from sad to relief to empowerment.
Tell us about your divorces, your friendship breakups, the relationship that ended before it started. Sky’s the limit. We will not accept essays that sound like public callouts or cancellation campaigns.
Check out Volume I for inspiration. These will be on sale for the submission period.
Include a separate title page that has your name, pronouns, and information so that it’s separated from the actual essay for review.
Essays should be double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 800-2,200 words. Authors who are accepted will receive a one-time payment of $50.00, three free copies of The Breakup Book: Volume II in addition to one of any swag we create (like t-shirts or posters), and an opportunity to appear on The Breakup Book Tour.

Pitch to us
We are accepting pitches for books that fit our mission statement on a rolling basis.
If you have a book idea that you believe fits our mission, we would love to hear more! We only accept submissions by LGBTQ+ identified people. POC, Trans people, and nonbinary people get priority.

Submissions must include a pitch page and a writing sample. The sample does not have to be for the book you plan to write, but just something that shows your writing style and voice.
The pitch page is your chance to sell your book idea. What’s your idea? How does it fit into our mission? Who would benefit from your book? Why would it sell well?
Book ideas should be narrow enough to fit into a book category. I.e. self-help, dating and relationships, family, psychology, cookbooks, etc. We are currently not accepting poetry submissions.

We prefer first person narrative. However we’re open to other styles if they make more sense for your idea.
Your writing sample should effectively show your writing style and voice that we can expect to see if we take on your book.

You will hear back from us within one-three months. We try to keep it as close to one month as possible. We may reach out for follow up questions or schedule a phone meeting or in-person meeting.
